Big Brands Start To Engage Customers For Hours At A Time via Curated Music Playlists

Big Brands Start To Engage Customers For Hours At A Time via Curated Music Playlists | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, August 22, 2013 3:57 PM

While they may cost a few thousand dollars if commisioned through an agency, curated music playlist appear to be an emerging approach for big brands to develop a closer relationship with their fans.

From Nissan, to Juicy Fruit, Telus and Mr. Clean, there are already several large brands who have been investing in compiling dedicated music playlists to engage and stay in contact with their customers and potential ones for hours at a time.

Songza (available only in the US and Canada) is one of the pioneering music distribution platforms monetizing this approach.

My comment: DJs and music experts may have yet to witness the opportunity to become fully part of the communication and marketing process of big brands by curating all of their marketing-related music needs.

Facebook To Brands, "Drop Dead", But Should You Close Your Facebook Page?

Facebook To Brands, "Drop Dead", But Should You Close Your Facebook Page? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
Is it time for you to close your Facebook brand page? Here are three important things to consider

Via Martin (Marty) Smith
Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, August 2, 2013 8:58 AM

Should You CLOSE or REDUCE Your Facebook Marketing?
Didn't know that Facebook was being such a jerk about "graph search" for brands. Not surprised to see you can buy your own list back as that is the kind of ransom Facebook has shown brands from the start.

Interesting to see Mark Cuban takes his marbles and go home (threatening to close his Facebook pages). The article makes a good point.

If you have a substantial UNIQUE Facebook following you are probably stuck paying the $2. If not you may consider the cost / benefits of your Facebook marketing and arrive at where Cuban is - thinking about closing down your Facebook page (or relegating it to the "low investment" side of the fence).

This article is very timely, as I have been working on a logo design for http://PhilosBooks.com, which will be shown on the website very soon. Please let me know what you think once you take a look at it!

As an author, you are a brand whether you like that fact or not. If you have a logo that pops, and every time people see it, they will think of you, you are ahead of the game. Make sure it is relevant, eye-catching, and brands you and your books. You can then place that logo on every single one of your book covers.

Benjamin Moore's Main Street Mattes is a great campaign idea. The paint company will use a favorite tactic of mine, the User Generated Content Contest, to "beautify America.

They will select 20 "Main Streets" to be revitalized based on UGC nominations and votes. Great idea proving another favorite topic - Save The World Marketing.

Every brand, product and service saves the world in some way. Connecting with how your brand, product, service or company saves the world has never been more important.

Save The World Marketing Is Here!

Embrace Save The World Marketing
In a social mobile and connected time for profit companies should learn emotional storytelling from nonprofits. Nonprofits should learn viral marketing and SEO from their for profit cousins.

Save The World Marketing is a "new altruism" that is sweeping across social media. Companies and brands that embrace Save The World marketing create an emotional connection with customers via authentic stories and social media.

Every enterprise is saving the world in some interesting way. Telling that story or finding partners who can help tell a company's "save the world" story should be a top priority for senior managers and small to medium sized businesses (SMBs).

Promoting yourself in the digital age

Promoting yourself in the digital age | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

The owner of one of my favourite cafes recently started using Twitter and Facebook. However, when you interact with her business online, you get very little sense of the woman behind it. Her online footprint is polite but, frankly, it lacks personality. In reality, she is a larger than life character who epitomises her brand. She lives and breathes her cafe — and is well known (in real life) for her food, unique decor and events.

She told me: "I just don't want to be in the spotlight. I want people to interact with my business, not with me. I don't want to be the centre of attention."

Fair enough. However, in a world where consumers are bombarded with marketing and advertising messages, some experts believe we are living in an age where personal branding is vital for success. And that means NOT shying away from the spotlight.

(From the article): There are other options from Google that might help your company from within. Google Apps provides employees with Gmail, online calendars, shared documents and more starting at $50 a year per user. These integrate well with some of Google’s other products – particularly AdWords and Analytics – so it might be worth considering. Even if you don’t opt for it, the above tools will help bring your company’s profile to where you want it to be.

"Asynchronous Thinking" - A Haiku Deck by Martin Smith

"Asynchronous Thinking" - A Haiku Deck by Martin Smith | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Discovered the strange secret of Internet marketing last week. We lucky few Internet marketers must do some things BECAUSE everyone is doing them. We violate these "conventions" at our risk, but we can't stop there.

We can't stop with mere emulation of current convention because there is no money to be made there. Our Internet marketing must win hearts, minds, love and advocacy to become increasingly valuable. We can't win brand advocates by copying others.

We must take the risk of passionate disruption. Disruption in Internet marketing is a tricky business. Too little disruption and your Internet marketing is conventional and boring. Too much disruption and your Internet marketing is speaking to itself about itself.

Testing is the best way to find the thin and ever-changing line between conventional boring and just the right amount of loyalty creating disruption. This @HaikuDeck is about how and why your Internet marketing must "think" asynchronously. Why you must disrupt to win.

Love this quote:

"Social media is a fantastic complement to compelling, live television content," said Toby Byrne, president of advertising for Fox Broadcasting Co. "Not only is it a great marketing tool for us ... [it also] opens up additional ways for us to connect brands with our audience."

Duh! This new partnership is a victory and a defeat. Victory because it signals brands are getting social media. Defeat because the new partnership seeks to make social media just another push network.

Let's hope people smart enough to realize social media can rock live events also understand "live event" means there are threads that should be followed instead of simply pushing more disconnected ads at us.

Content Marketing: It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint | Internet Billboards | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

I think I’m going to have to break up with a client.

Mind you, this client has always paid her invoices on her time. She’s very pleasant to deal with. And she’s very good at what she does.

Here’s the problem: We’ve been working together for two months, and she’s clearly frustrated that no business has yet resulted from my efforts on her behalf. (It doesn’t help that she’s in a firmly relationship-based industry.) Many a time have I tried to explain that content marketing is not a quick fix, but she seems to believe that after eight weeks, she’s waited long enough to start cashing in on her investment.
