Six ways to create great content in just 15 minutes a day

Six ways to create great content in just 15 minutes a day | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
Content marketing can be an extremely complicated, time-consuming, and expensive proposition! So I came up with content options for the time-starved!

Let’s face it. Content development can be a complicated, time-consuming, and expensive proposition! So I started thinking about this in the context of my friends and small business customers who simply can’t afford that kind of effort. It led to this idea: micro-content, or creating small bits of marketing content when you don’t have time to blog, create videos or spend all day on Facebook.

Let’s examine ideas about using micro-content for your social media strategy, assuming you are testing the water and only have 15 minutes a day to devote to this activity. Hey, I’m up for a challenge!

Preparation

Like any marketing initiative, you must have a firm idea of your strategy, selling points, and target audience...

12 Keys to Success on Twitter

12 Keys to Success on Twitter | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Twitter was never designed to be a social network but it has become one.

In fact it was designed initially in 2006 to used by individuals as an SMS type service to communicate with a small group at the podcasting company Odeo.

When I first joined Twitter in 2008, I was underwhelmed and wondered as to its usefulness. Its early attraction to me was its novelty factor.

It has overcome this challenge and four years later it has built an impressive resume.

Over 140 million active users as of 2012 Generates over 340 million tweets daily Handles over 1.6 billion search queries per day Tenth most visited site on the internet

In the nearly six years since its founding over 600 million users have registered Twitter accounts.

The anti-social network: Life without Facebook

The anti-social network: Life without Facebook | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

A bad breakup: Nothing can be as emotionally tumultuous for a young heart.

Except maybe finding out via your Facebook newsfeed that your college ex is dating someone from your fraternity.

That was the defining moment that eventually led Brolin Walters, 24, to ultimately break up with something else: Facebook.

"I didn't want to see what was going on with them," said Walters. "So I deactivated my account."

With a website that boasts 901 million active users and is launching an IPO on Friday, it seems unlikely that once you get on Facebook, you'd ever leave. But deactivating from the social networking site is not that unusual. Close to half of Americans think Facebook is a passing fad, according to the results of a new Associated Press-CNBC poll.

5 Reasons Why Brands Should Integrate Google+ With Their Paid Search | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
With the connection of AdWords to Google+ Pages via Social Extensions, Google is enticing advertisers to build a presence on the site.

As expected, Google continues to advance its efforts to make Google+ a success as it further integrates the social platform into its core products to encourage adoption and increase activity. With the recent connection of AdWords to Google+ Pages via Social Extensions, Google is enticing AdWords advertisers to build a strong presence on the social site.

By enabling Social Extensions, consumers will be able to see all recommendations a brand has received, whether they are viewing a paid ad, a search result or your Google+ Page. There are currently two types of Social Extensions: Personal and Basic. Personal shows you the number of people within your Google+ Circle who have +1’d your landing page or your Google+ Page, while Basic shows how many people across the web have +1’d your page.

7 Ways to Be a Successful Social Marketer

7 Ways to Be a Successful Social Marketer | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Social marketing is an advertising art that is widely utilized but less widely successful, forcing marketers who are looking for real, measurable results to hone their tactics. Review our list of seven ways to be a successful social marketer to help give you a leg up on the competition!

1. Build strong, targeted social media accounts.

Your social media accounts are only as useful as the friends and followers connected to them, making the first step of building those accounts absolutely crucial. Instead of simply working to obtain as many connections as possible, work instead to connect with like-minded people who are more likely to have an interest in what you have to offer.

Why Small Business Have A Huge Advantage Over Brands In Social Media | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
How small business can perform better than brands in social media by focusing on simple goals, being human, ensuring satisfaction and measuring ROI...

I currently have the fortune to experience two different fronts of digital marketing. Under Plural, I work with brands and, with SocialMouths I mostly jam with small business, personal brands, and bloggers.

One of the reasons I absolutely love this setup is that they are two different worlds in how the social web is approached, how it’s handled and how success is measured.

So I’m here to tell you that, despite the ridiculous budgets and unlimited resources, small business has a huuuge advantage over brands when it come to social media.

Here are my thoughts:

Strategy. Or Not?

Don’t Underestimate the Power of (Social) Collaboration. It Is Not a Given | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Ok, back to Social Business. After the last few days where I have been blogging a number of different times about some musings on redesigning and refining further along the workplace of the future, it’s time to get down to business again and continue to share further insights around social networking / computing for business or the good old Social Business itself.

By the way, stay tuned because very soon I will be putting together an article where I will explain why I’m going to move away from the social business concept into another one that I think is much more accurate and fitting in helping explain where we are today with the whole mantra behind Social. But till then, how about if one of these days you come to work and you bump into a rather controversial article, a superb read, actually, that questions the whole social business industry, right where it hurts the most: Social Networking for Business doesn’t count much on today’s CIO’s top priorities, after all. Disappointing or a huge opportunity? Both, eventually!

The Word Nerd Content Marketing Checklist | Outspoken Media

The Word Nerd Content Marketing Checklist | Outspoken Media | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Maybe you’ve been distracted lately by Tupac’s hologram stealing the show at Coachella, but if you’ll allow me, I’d like to turn the conversation to content marketing for a moment. Okay, maybe a few moments—get comfy. From the bold strategy Coca-Cola shared with the public, to debates over whether content marketing sucks, content marketing has captured quite a bit of Internet attention, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up.

But one thing I’ve noticed is most people are focusing on the marketing part, and not so much on the content part. The general consensus is that quality content is the way to high rankings, traffic, and conversions. But while I’ve read a lot of posts that say you need quality content, I haven’t seen many that outline exactly how to create it. There seems to be a disconnect between copywriting advice, and content marketing how-tos. So let’s connect those dots.

Do you feel like you are suffering from Twitter Tiredness?

Do you feel like you are “tweeting in the dark”, spending more and more time on Twitter but getting less and less out of it?

I know the story. A few months (or years) ago, you signed up for a Twitter account. You dutifully wrote a clever bio, uploaded your picture and started tweeting. Maybe you followed some accounts and learned a bit about the culture and etiquette of the network before sending your first tweet.

After following a few people and building a following of your own, you started following more and more and retweeting more and more, all while spending less and less time engaging in conversations and writing original tweets.

Twitter Content Strategy Guide

Twitter Content Strategy Guide | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Twitter has quickly become a favorite part of content marketing strategies employed by most businesses. The 140 character limit means that it doesn’t take much work, users have little inhibition about following quality profiles and it’s already optimized for mobile. Curating a quality Twitter feed lends itself to an answer for so many marketing questions that it would be hard to list them all here.

Still yet, lots of users have no idea how to make 140 characters count. What we end up with is Twitter feeds consisting primarily of links and quotes. Quotes are an obvious place to start when you want concise snippets of text that convey wisdom and evoke strong emotions. In fact, the most successful Twitter users are almost always inspirational, funny or educational in nature. However, followers don’t want to follow a copy of someone that’s already in their feed, and as an online influencer you don’t want to be pigeonholed.

Instagram vs. Pinterest: Which Is More Important for Brands? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

In the past year and a half we’ve seen a real shift in social media. A move is happening away from the strict confines of the 140 character update towards something more visual.

More than ever, we are sharing images and video with one another — in increasingly simpler ways. In a relatively short amount of time Pinterest and Instagram have both grown into their own juggernaut communities.

Both of these services offer great, new, visual ways to connect with your fans and potential customers, but do you really need to focus on both? In the battle of Instagram vs. Pinterest, which one is a better fit for your brand?

10 Social Media Secrets from the Social Scientist

10 Social Media Secrets from the Social Scientist | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
Value is the currency on the Web, and the more value you create, the more people will flock to you. It has been said give till it hurts and you will receive it back in spades.

There are some secrets regarding social media that I’d like to share.

I’m a bit of a hard-core social media user and I’ve been doing web and content development for many years now. Because I have been online for a very long time (pre-graphical Web), I am pretty attuned to what constitutes authentic and cooperative behavior online. There are things that set apart the altruistic contributor (check out this cool thing!), for instance, from the self-serving ones (buy my stuff!).

If you do nothing else this year, consider shifting your social media strategy to encompass increasingly pro-social guidelines. The more you give, the more the community will give back, but it needs to be done with a sensitive hand.

Image-sharing site Pinterest has been in negotiations for months with photo service Getty. A breakthrough could dispel some of the copyright questions hanging over the hot startup — but one expert says not to hold your breath.

According to Bill Rosenblatt, an engineer and authority on digital rights issues, the two sides are likely in a logjam over how — or if — Pinterest should use Getty’s image detection software, PicScout. Getty acquired PicScout, which tracks images across the Internet, last year for $20 million.

Facebook rolls out the ability to manage pages from mobile apps

Facebook rolls out the ability to manage pages from mobile apps | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

For anybody who manages a Facebook page, the big challenge has always been doing so from a mobile device... amazing [note mg]

Managing Facebook pages from mobile devices has been a tricky challenge for page admins, but thankfully Facebook has just started testing an app that will make their lives easier. It’s called Facebook Pages Manager and it is available in the app store now for some countries and is rolling out to everyone in the next few days.

This is an interesting move as it seems to be part of a wider strategy by Facebook to launch individual apps for specific features on the site instead of trying to pack all their features and services into one main app. This new app allows you to log in as your actual page rather than trying to access it through your own personal app, which had caused major confusion for users in the past. This was especially true for those in the unfortunate position to be managing several Facebook pages.

As we measure the degree of damage, or more precisely, reduced revenue and increased costs from the downturn, advertising spending tends to be one of the first cuts owners make. Yet this may be a great time to expand marketing to take a share of the market away from your competitors.

The key is marketing without little or no money through efforts like community engagement, referrals or sending a press release to local media. Another method is becoming a recognized expert who is called upon by media and other outlets to speak, write and lend your expertise.
