In my role at Twitter, I work with a spectrum of businesses – both large and small. This year, I’ll be traveling around the world and am particularly excited to meet with smaller businesses to share how Twitter can help them. This week, at the National Retail Federation (NRF) Annual Convention in New York City, I spoke about the future of retail during the “Main Street Retailing Forum” keynote.

The technical side of blogging can be very demanding, so the plugins really help. In addition to great content and SEO, I think you need an outreach/networking program.

Leaping Learning Lizards! Lanyrd integrates with LinkedIn

Leaping Learning Lizards! Lanyrd integrates with LinkedIn | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Integration can be powerful.  This reverberates for many industries including learning, conferences as well as the professional speaking industies.

Excerpted:

Lanyrd now helps LinkedIn users discover conferences and professional events based on their LinkedIn connections and profile information.

This fills a gap left by the shutdown of LinkedIn's events application and allows event organizers to continue to take advantage of LinkedIn to promote their events.

LinkedIn users can also use Lanyrd to build their own speaker profiles, get event information on their mobile phones and network more effectively with others at events.

Instagram vs. Pinterest: Which Is More Important for Brands?

Instagram vs. Pinterest: Which Is More Important for Brands? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

In the past year and a half we’ve seen a real shift in social media. A move is happening away from the strict confines of the 140 character update towards something more visual.

More than ever, we are sharing images and video with one another — in increasingly simpler ways. In a relatively short amount of time Pinterest and Instagram have both grown into their own juggernaut communities.

Both of these services offer great, new, visual ways to connect with your fans and potential customers, but do you really need to focus on both? In the battle of Instagram vs. Pinterest, which one is a better fit for your brand?

How to clear your Facebook search history

How to clear your Facebook search history

Can you lose your Facebook Page because you didn't follow the rules? Facebook would never shut down a Page because they ran a contest and did something like... oh, I don't know, maybe offer to donate a dollar to charity for every Like their Page gets... right?

I'm constantly seeing people saying they've never heard of a Page being shut down for violating a rule and that Facebook doesn't enforce most of them anyway. Well, here are two examples of some popular Pages that were shut down by Facebook for some seemingly innocent contest rule violations. Think it's okay to do it just because you see the big dogs doing it? Think again.

Will FB Graph Search necessitate a “Love” button?

Will FB Graph Search necessitate a “Love” button? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

One of the most unwieldly features of Facebook has always been the search function.

After all there is a lot of information to sift through.

There are already more than a billion people, more than 240 billion photos and more than a trillion connections.

How do I find that thread I was talking on last week? Where are my friends recommend that I travel to if I go to Australia. What events are on in Tokyo this weekend? This kind of thing and more.

I just signed up for the beta of the Facebook Graph Search.

The objects we will find will be determined by “likes”. This may mean that many will become more circumspect with what they click like on. Instead of using it as a networking tool to let others know that you have seen their content. Maybe Facebook now needs a love button?

Does everybody need a social media strategy?

Does everybody need a social media strategy? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

As the hype of social media begins to die down and companies re-evaluate their efforts with a steely-eyed look at the cost versus benefits, I think it is time to re-visit this important question: Does every company really need a social media marketing plan?

This is a very complex question. So to help answer it, I looked at a few companies with brands that might not be natural fits for a social media presence. Adult diapers. Coal. Hazardous waste clean-up. Playing cards.

Let’s explore this important question by taking a romp through some unusual case studies that stretch the boundaries of social media marketing thinking.

Twitter Content Strategy Guide

Twitter Content Strategy Guide | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Twitter has quickly become a favorite part of content marketing strategies employed by most businesses. The 140 character limit means that it doesn’t take much work, users have little inhibition about following quality profiles and it’s already optimized for mobile. Curating a quality Twitter feed lends itself to an answer for so many marketing questions that it would be hard to list them all here.

Still yet, lots of users have no idea how to make 140 characters count. What we end up with is Twitter feeds consisting primarily of links and quotes. Quotes are an obvious place to start when you want concise snippets of text that convey wisdom and evoke strong emotions. In fact, the most successful Twitter users are almost always inspirational, funny or educational in nature. However, followers don’t want to follow a copy of someone that’s already in their feed, and as an online influencer you don’t want to be pigeonholed.
